Changes for Weslie

With Weslie turning three at the end of next week, she will age out of the First Steps program that she has been a part of since she began with all of her therapies. First Steps has been amazing for our girl. She has come so far in how she uses her hand and in her strength in her right side.

However, with her aging out, we were really concerned that NOT getting OT every week and NOT having that support would find Weslie regressing. So we began the process of trying to get her qualified to go to the "special" preschool that is funded by the state.

We had to have numerous meetings with many different therapists and evaluators. And all in all the verdict was that Weslie will definitely benefit from being in that classroom setting - where the teachers are schooled in helping children that need extra help and the therapists are literally right down the hall. So after all of the interviews and meetings...Weslie qualifies!!!! She was qualified on the basis of needed specialized help in continuing to use her right hand more effectively. (as a side note, Wes did not qualify based on her academic ability. She was actually tested at almost a four year old level instead of a three year old...yeah, she's a smarty pants!)

So beginning the Monday after Spring Break, Weslie will be attending preschool for three hours a day, four days a week! And she will continue at this same school until she goes to Kindergarden!

This has been an answer to our prayers. She will continue to be provided OT at the school while being challenged academically by the teachers.

AND, as if that wasn't enough, if I would have been working...we may not have been able to put her in the school because she has to get picked up at 11am everyday. Just another thing that proves to us that we have made the right decision for me to stay home!
