Tooth Update

Well, its been a whirlwind with Weslie's front tooth - the one that had me freaking out and had us high-tailing it to the ER to see what could be done.

We went to the first dentist's office...and to be quite honest, I was completely shocked at what they did (or really, what they didnt do.) They simply wiggled her tooth, said "yeah, its loose...we could pull it today or we can wait a week and see what happens...then pull it then if its still loose."

UMMMM WHAT?!?!? Pull her tooth? I asked what would be done after the pulling and was told that nothing would be done. That Wes would just have a void until her permanent teeth came in.

Again, UMMMM WHAT?!?!? She's two! You dont get your permanent teeth until you are like 6, 7, 8 years old. So she wouldnt have a tooth for possibly 5 or so years. Yeah, that's not an option.

So we sought a second opinion. And while I think that this new doctor has the right idea...we just dont know what to do. The new guy took x-rays and saw that there is a small spot up in the top of Weslie's tooth that has started to die off (I'm not sure if its the actual tooth or what that is dying). So he wants to go in and do a pulpotomy (baby root canal) on both of Weslie's front teeth (apparently there is trauma to the other front tooth as well.) BUT this procedure, since Wes is so little, will have to be done at a hospital with Weslie under full general anesthesia. Oh, and he wants to do it on Monday....like in 3 days.

So he wants to put our little girl under (which on little ones...going under anesthesia isnt the best case scenario...and with Weslie's condition, we dont know what the risks are for another stroke or anything) and perform a procedure on two baby teeth (that will eventually fall out) that may or may not "fix" her problem...and she may end up losing the teeth anyways.

Uggghhhh. Plus the cost is outrageous. The dentist part isnt really that bad...but since he has to put her under, the medical cost is crazy!!!

So we literally have no idea what we are going to do. We have to call him tomorrow with an answer...but we honestly have no idea what is the "right" choice.

Sometimes being a parent is full of the tough choices...

I say let it play itself out....nature will handle it!! AND..do you know they make little pageant flips for the little girls who have lost their front teeth...an option!! I've seen it on TLC...they order the kit and set the mold their selves!

Oh the drama!! Good Luck!
