Well apparently, midweek she ended up having a stroke and she started to spiral downhill pretty fast. Caton and I talked about it, and about how he wanted to be able to see her one last time, and decided to travel the 8 hours on Friday.
When Caton got to the hospital on Friday night, he was able to see his grandmother, talk to her, and show her pics of Kole. He said that she responded - she couldn't talk - but that he thought that she definitely knew what was going on and was happy to see the pics of her newest great-grandchild.
Saturday was more of the same. Caton and his family would go to the hospital during the assigned visiting hours. And then return home to relay Grams' status to the rest of us.
On Sunday, our plan was to head back to KY, knowing that we would probably be returning to AL within the next few weeks. So we stopped by the hospital on the way out. Caton was able to get up to see Grams even though it was about 30 minutes before visiting hours started. He had a quick visit with Grams, leaving her with a sweet goodbye.
We got about 40 minutes up the road when we got the call - Grams had passed away. We immediately turned the car around and headed back to town.
Arrangements have been made for Tuesday morning, but we all know that she has already been welcomed to heaven... I to the waiting arms of her husband and youngest son that went before her.
We will forever miss Grams. She was one of the highlights of coming to AL to visit. Her smile and sweet nature were next to none.
Sleep well sweet Grams. Peace and love.
