On Saturday, WKU traveled to Lexington to play the University of Kentucky. Being that it would be only about a 2 hour drive…the other S&C coach’s wife and I decided to load our kids up and take them to the game. We made a Saturday morning decision to go – as it was supposed to be rainy and thunderstorming at gametime. But we packed our rain gear and headed to Lexington with the 4 kids in tow.
On the way, Weslie napped and the boys (the other three kids) all played their respective DS-es. Kade got in a short cat nap just as we were pulling into town and was afforded a few more minutes of shut-eye as it took us about 45 minutes to find a parking spot.
As we were getting out of the van, we were putting all of the DS-es away…and one of the boys couldn’t find his stylus. So Laura turned on the interior lights to help the boys look for the pen. (I know that all sounds trivial…but rest assured, that would turn out to be the most important part of the trip!!!) Once found, we loaded our gear into our bags and headed off on the trek across campus to the stadium. I think we literally parked about 2 miles away!!! Laura ended up having to carry Weslie for me…as I just couldn’t hold her for one more second.
So the game came…WKU put on a valiant effort…but late in the fourth quarter, Laura and I realized that the ‘Toppers weren’t going to pull that one out…so we headed for the car – trying to beat some of the traffic out of town.
However, once back to the van…the battery was dead. Completely dead. Like her clicker to unlock the doors wouldn’t even work, dead!!! So I immediately text Caton telling him we are stuck. And to my surprise he calls me right back saying that one of the other S&C coaches was going to call me and come and help us. So we wait around…asking every UK fan that passed us if they had jumper cables – none of them did. Finally Joey showed up…and got the van jumped off. Come to find out…we had left the interior overhead lights on and THAT is what drained the battery. We pulled out just ahead of the football team and made it home without further incident. I was able to get the kids tucked in and jump in bed just as Caton was walking in the door. (It was about 1:30am)
Then on Sunday, we all slept until about 9:30am…got up, ate breakfast (that Caton made), went to Church, went to lunch, went grocery shopping, came home, napped, played outside, unpacked the last of our stuff, did laundry, and cooked dinner – all WITH CATON!!! Having him home for an entire Sunday was amazing!!!
Hopefully this weekend’s game wont have near the “adventure” that last weekend’s had…but if so…we can always look forward to Sundays!!!
