She Went to the Hospital and All She Got Was...

Looking back, now that Weslie is home and safe and sound, we can kind of chuckle at all the different experiences that Weslie had while in the hospital (some of them positive, some of them negative). But still...they are experiences that will shape who she is.

So without further ado...

She went to the hospital (for 4 days) and all she got was...
  • ...a total of 19 breathing treatments
  • ...an iv that took 4 people and over half an hour to put in her arm (this was absolute torture for me...someone had to lay on top of her and she was looking at me screaming, "No Mommy, NO!!!" with huge tears in her eyes.) It. was. brutal.
  • ...to sleep in a metal crib that she banged her head on not once...but twice

  • ...to have her arm "casted" with a temporary cast so that she wouldnt pull her iv out - however, it made her unable to bend her arm...as seen in the pic below (which you would think that they would put a little kid's iv in a spot that wasnt so detrimental...but whatever)

  • ...to have more blood taken out of her other arm because they "couldnt use the iv site that was already in place." Therefore sending Weslie into a state of hysterics.
  • room service...on demand
  • a nasal cannula that had to be taped to her face (but only for the first day or so)
  • an oxygen monitor that was taped to her big toe (the entire time)
  • not one, but two 4-day old roommates (they were twins). And why they would put a brand new, nursing mother of twins in a room with anyone else is beside me - especially when there were other rooms completely empty on our floor
  • to have Mommy or Daddy sleep right next to her in the most uncomfortable chair ever...and sometimes sleep right next to Mommy or Daddy in said chair
  • to have doctors, nurses, customer representatives, respitory therapists, etc wake her up at least every 4 hours to "check her out" (how do they expect anyone to get better if they are always waking her up???)
  • to cut up a perfectly good shirt in order to fit her "cast arm" (see pic below)
  • to make a few calls to tell someone about it all

  • this new baby doll
We are so happy that our baby is home and getting back into the swing of things. She was released with no restrictions on activity...but Caton and I are having a hard time "letting her be."
We love you, File'...and are so glad you are home...safe and sound.

These pics are so sad...but I love seeing that big beautiful smile come back in the last couple of ones! Glad Wes is okay, and really glad mommy and daddy made it through this one! I can't even imagine!

Oh, I feel your pain as a mother. Grace spent some time in the hospital last winter with pneumonia and it was brutal. I'm glad Weslie is doing better and able to be home, especially for Easter. These little ones are so resilient!
